EVERY CHILD IS SAFE

On September 5, everything changes for 17,000 people.

THE PROBLEM

What is the problem?

What is the problem?

90% of girls are raped before adulthood in the villages we serve

What is the Problem?

Sexual violence against children is rampant in Uganda. Research in the villages Ourganda sponsors reveals that 90% of the girls are forcibly raped before they reach adulthood.

Is it possible to protect children?

Of course it is. Ourganda has 8,000 children in the 13 villages we sponsor. Every day, we ask the question, “Where will 8,000 kids be in ten years?”

Uganda has strict laws that are supposed to protect children (although they are so far rarely enforced.) The offenders are in the minority. The majority of adults and children are angry and disgusted at the offenses. We are the adults. We must and we will assure that every child in our villages is safe and has the tools to be healthy.

THE VISION

Why is Ourganda getting involved?

Children are precious. Jesus recommends a millstone necklace for anyone who harms a child (Matthew 18:1-6).

What is Ourganda’s goal?

Within 18 months of launching our campaign, sexual violence against children will be reduced by 90%, and 95% of the people in our villages will feel courageous enough to report violations.
Hope and Possibility

Hope and Possibility

  • Uganda has strict laws
  • Most adults care deeply
  • We are creating change

THE SOLUTION

What is the Solution?

What is the Solution?

  • Volunteers
  • Community Action Team
  • New legal cooperation

What is the Solution?

Ourganda has deployed an army of volunteers that protects women from violent men. We have earned the full cooperation of government authorities who have organized themselves into a Community Action Team (CAT). A natural next step is to create a parallel ecosystem that protects vulnerable children.

What happens on September 5?

A new reality for 17,000 people in Ourganda’s 13 villages. When September 5 arrives,
    • Every child will be able to say, “I am safe today because the rules have changed!”
    • Adults will say, “We will not be quiet anymore. We will speak up. We will act. We will protect our kids.
    • Every offender will say, “I don’t dare do this again — ever.”

What happens before September 5?

Joinus, Kereni, and the children’s protection team are conducting over 60 community meetings with government leaders, teachers, pastors, parents and even older children. Before September 5, every person in our villages will hear this:
    • Starting September 5, if a child is violated, we will find the offender and he will be prosecuted.
    • Those who are determined to protect our children outnumber those who violate children. We are building an army of trained and dedicated partners: Mankind & Soul Sisters, teachers, pastors, local government leaders, even attorneys.
    • The Community Action Team will work with police, prosecutors & judges — and the offender will go to prison.
    • You are invited to join the army of men and women who are dedicated to protecting our children.

CHILDREN’S COMMITMENT

Children are willing to do their part. Many are eagerly signing it. They are making positive choices about next week and next year — and the rest of their lives.
